Learning Support

Our learning specialist makes it possible for us to provide an education uniquely tailored to each child’s learning style.

While a teacher is focused on a lesson or busy conferring with a student, our learning specialist may step into the room. She notices whether students are following the lesson, working independently or need guidance. She lets a teacher know when a student might benefit by having the instructions in writing…when another might think more clearly after a few jumping jacks…when a student has mastered a concept and needs an extension…or when another might need to review last week’s lesson before moving ahead.

If a parent or teacher expresses concern about a student’s learning or skills, a meeting is held to assess the situation and develop a plan of action. The plan is reviewed systematically and documented every ten weeks. It is our goal to help teachers accommodate the variety of learning needs and styles so every child can reach his or her potential.

Students have the support of a social worker and an occupational therapist, who enrich the learning experience and help teachers handle challenges as they arise.
