Abe’s Story

As an RJA student, Abe Bluestone often demonstrated his desire to make a difference. In fact, he was among the founders of our DRK Social Action Club.

Now that he's a graduate, he's shining his light on the world - literally!

For his Bar-Mitzvah project, Abraham has created the "Change 5 Light Bulbs Project" - an effort to educate people about how easy it is to save money and energy by switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's). If you visited the Earth Day festival at Forest Park last weekend, perhaps you saw him! Ameren UE offered to host his project at one of the entrances to its exhibit!

Abraham enlisted a group of his friends from the 7th grade at Wydown (Clayton) Middle School to create a display showing the newest CFL bulbs and also LED bulbs.

"People who want lower electric bills often want to help the environment as well," Abe told fairgoers. "Did you know that if everyone in the United States changed one frequently used light bulb to a CFL, it would save energy equivalent to taking 1,000,000 cars off the road?"

At Earth Day, the Change 5 Bulbs Project distributed more than 200 free light bulb to festival attendees. Light bulbs were donated by Metro Lighting & AmerenUE.
